Recent Trips-Page 2

July 5 1999 : Our last day here. We get up around 7:45 AM and get ready to leave. We head down for breakfast, the same as yesterday. Once we are full we check out and head for Maligne Lake. Here is another of those 'must see' places. Wow. Time for a boat ride. The chartered boats take you on an eighteen kilometer trip to Spirit Island and back. The scenery is incredible as you can see in the pictures.

This is the world famous Spirit Island. It is only an island for two weeks of the year. We missed it. The water had already receded too much.

Maligne Lake is a beautiful part of the world. I will go there again and again. I hope it never changes.

On the way down the mountain we encountered some wildlife. We saw a porcupine (no picture, sorry). Some Mountain Goats, Elk, and the best of all a big 'ol Black Bear. All of these animals are just doing what they do naturally. Check out these pictures.

This is a Mountain Goat. They will stick their heads right into your window looking for a hand out. Unfortunately some people feed these animals and they tend to hang out on the road looking for it. Can you say road kill?

A Majestic Bull Elk. Just after I took this picture he lifted his head. Did he know I was waiting or what?

This is the biggest Black Bear I have ever had the pleasure of being so close to. In the bottom picture,we are only about fifteen or twenty feet away. Hard to tell from this picture. He didn't even bat an eye. He just kept on eating. Talk about a false sense of security.
